What is the first job I could start out with in aviation as a pilot that would lead me to a higher level?

Once i have my PPL are there jobs with minimum reqs of that? Or would I need an instrument rating or MEI rating to begin with a pilot job?

Or would I need to start on the flightline?

To get paid to fly you need a commercial rating. You cannot get paid legally with just a private and instrument. MEI is multiengine instructor, and to obtain that, you need a commercial multiengine rating.

You are correct. You would first need to obtain your MEI before you could apply. There are several "Fast Track" ways to get in the Right seat once you have an MEI. http://www.atpflightschool.com/programs/programs_crj_regional_jet.html

This is an example of one of many ways to be flying as soon as possible. These guarantee interviews for Regional Jet Carriers. Once you have been flying RJS for a while you can work your way up the chain. Starting as on the flightline is the slowest way to get to becoming a pilot and even then it is very hard to do. You should definitely begin with a pilot job

Apply directly with airlines direct or look on www.aviationjobsearch.com.

Good luck!

Do boy or baggage handler.
