How should you dress to a job fair that has onsite interviews?

I'm going to a job fair tuesday at a mall. Jobs include IT, Technical, Light industrial, customer service, clerical and administrative openings. I'm not sure how professional I should dress and I'm looking for advice.

Almost all the positions you mention sound like white collar or customer facing. Even the light industrial may involve office work or customer contact. Dress to the nicer end of business casual (sports coat, dress slacks, dress shirt, tie optional). Act professional as if you were ready for the real thing.

When I interview candidates, I am always looking for the man or woman who dress and act like they may transcend the role for which they are interviewing. This goes for even the lower end jobs. These type of candidates look more promotable and therefore are more desirable and are worth an extra look.

I would recommend a tie at the very least. It is always good to wear a suit if you can. Basically you want to look one step better then everyone else. Keep this in mind, "Dress to impress." Most hiring decisions are in the first few moments of the interview. Remember the interview starts when you make eye contact. Even if the job seems like you don't need a suit, wear a tie. Black is always a good conservative color. Make sure your shoes, tie, pants, and belt all match. Your tie does not have to be a solid color, but it should have the same color as the afore mentioned accessories. Don't wear allot of jewelry, nothing to flashy but don't be boring either. If you have tattoos try to cover them to where they are not seen. A job interview is not the place to display your body art. Most of all, SMILE! Try to relax, have fun, BE YOURSELF. You might not think that these have anything to do with dressing for a job interview, but they do. Do yourself a favor and research questions that the job interviewer might ask you. Practice your answers in front of a mirror, it will help take the edge off.

Always dress like you are going to a real interview. Wear appropriate attire. Never wear jeans, a t-shirt, sneakers, etc. You don't have to wear a suit, but it would help to look professional. Look successful, don't look like a slob or a slacker.

Dress as you would if you were going to work, you don't go for an interview as a Carpenter dressed in a three piece suit. A job fair is a bit different but if asked can you start right away you want to be able to say yes
