you could try for another retail job. If you had been working in a retail job for 4 months, you could put that on your resume as Work Experience (instead of Employment History).
Places like fast food stores - McDonalds etc - will employ people with out expereince as they train.
Or you could - depending on where you live - get a traineeship. They dont require experience and at the end you get a certificate/qualification.
You could try entry level waitressing, or junior positions in any field - such as retail, admin/office etc - they dont usually require any previous expereince. They train on the job!
You CAN put a job on your resume ecven if the employer wont give you a reference. new employers can't legally contact any previous employers with out your permission.
Another retail place. Or food.
You've got better credentials than me. I had a Maccas job at 15 but quit that after 6months and they wouldn't give me a reference so I couldn't use them on my resume. I got a job with no experience at all (except for teh week long work exp we had to do in school) in Kmart.

try getting a night job. A lot of time those jobs are more available and most people who are experienced working dont want those hours.
